There are lots of reasons why you might have adult clothing that you’re holding on to but is no longer in every day use. Maybe you’ve lost someone close to you, and sorting through their clothes is difficult. Maybe you have uniforms or t-shirts that hold lots of memories but are stored away as you no longer wear them.
A great option is to use the clothing to create a cosy memory quilt or keepsake cushion that you can use in your home, and keep those special memories close to hand every day.
Memorial quilts and cushions
Many times when a loved one passes away, we are faced with the dilemma of what to do with their belongings, and in particular their clothing. Clothing can be a significant emotional trigger, and powerful reminder of those we have lost and events we have shared. A memorial quilt is a very special way to capture these memories. It’s a great privilege to be commissioned to make these quilts. They are very special projects, and beautiful memorials.

Creating a Memory Quilt or Keepsake Cushion can be a comforting project for families coping with their loss. Indeed, for some of our clients the process of having the memory quilt made has been an important part of their grieving process, expressing their feelings and celebrating the person’s life in a practical and tangible way.
- For children who have sadly lost a parent, a memorial quilt or keepsake cushion made from their parent’s clothes provides them with a comfort now, and a lasting keepsake as they grow older and perhaps further from the people who knew Mum or Dad. A memory quilt can also provide a very special keepsake for a family who has lost a child.
- A memory quilt or keepsake cushion might help you finally empty that wardrobe, clear that suitcase in the attic or sort out that box of old ties, knowing that the most precious items will be preserved in a practical and beautiful way.
- Some clients have come to us many years after their loss – like the lady who had cushions made from her husband’s clothes for each of her new born grandchildren.
- One client couldn’t stand the thought of giving the clothes to charity and them being worn by someone else, but didn’t want to throw them away – commissioning a memory quilt was a positive solution and a way to keep the memories close.
Memory quilts from special items of clothing
We just love to take those special items you’ve collected over the years – cub scout uniforms, band t-shirts, army clothing, the t-shirts you collected as you travelled, university sweatshirts and sportswear, fabrics you used at your wedding (or even your wedding dress) – and transform them into beautiful memory quilts and keepsake cushions.

Clothing keepsakes from your treasured clothes full of memories
Here at Patchwork Castle we offer adult clothing memory quilts in several different designs, and a variety of sizes from lap to bedspread, with custom sizes available on request. Our Signature Mosaic Memory Quilt design works particularly well for t-shirt quilts with motifs and text.
We also have several different varieties of keepsake cushions available to order. These can be a great solution if you only have a few items of clothing, or would like to create several keepsakes for different family members.
As with all our clothing keepsakes, we’ll take the best features of your clothes, and adapt the designs to create a fabulous keepsake that makes the very most of your special clothes.
You can commission memory quilts and keepsake cushions from a wide variety of different items of clothing, and we’ll take account of any requests you might have for how your items are used.
Choose from the designs in our Adult Clothing Keepsakes Brochure to create a really special keepsake that you can use every day, rather than keeping all those garments in a box out of sight.
If you have any questions, or would like advice on how we might use those precious keepsake clothes in a quilt or cushion please do get in touch.
