Once your booking is confirmed, please send your clothing to Patchwork Castle, Woodend Creative Workspace, The Crescent, Scarborough YO11 2PW. Please mark your parcel clearly on the outside so we know it’s from you, and which item the clothes are for if you’ve ordered more than one product. We recommend packaging your clothes in a secure and waterproof parcel.
A tracked service is recommended. Parcels are held securely at Woodend until we collect them, so it may take a few days for us to confirm safe arrival. Once with us your clothing will be stored at our home studio, or in our secure (and clean and dry!) storage facility nearby.
If you would prefer to drop off your clothes then please just let us know. Most customers send their items by post but it’s always lovely to meet you.
Please send your clothes within four weeks of the date on your order confirmation.
If you have any questions at all about the items you’ll be sending, please do get in touch
Memory and Memorial Quilts
Baby and Children’s Clothes
The amounts of clothing needed for each item can be found in the product listings on our website. Please note the suggested clothing amounts are the optimum amounts using toddler size clothing – it’s best to include more for tiny baby clothes, and less for older children’s clothes (but please don’t send excessive amounts as we won’t be able to use them, and there may be an additional postage cost to return them to you).
Adult Clothing
Please refer to the information in the Adult Clothing Brochure (available here) for the particular items you have ordered. Please check if there are any particular requirements for the design of quilt you have chosen. The suggested clothing amounts are the optimum amounts for an average adult clothing item (e.g. shirt or t-shirt).
If you have significantly more or less clothing that you’d like incorporated please contact us before you send them. If there isn’t quite enough clothing for the size item you have ordered then we will add some plain fabric in a coordinating colour at no additional cost. If there is an odd piece of clothing that could not be used, we will return it with your quilt/cushion (we don’t return remnants of garments unless you specifically request it).
We recommend washing the clothes before you send them, especially if they have been stored for a while.
We try to avoid stained areas as far as possible. If any items have stains on them and you would like the stained area included please attach a note to confirm this or we will leave it out. Please make sure you check everything before sending to avoid disappointment.
We Can Use: Most baby and children’s clothes, t-shirts, shirts, blouses, dresses, lightweight sweaters, baby grows, rugby shirts, ties, socks, suit trousers, lightweight denim, crib sheets, curtains, comfort blankets, bibs, maternity clothes, tea towels, tablecloths, handkerchiefs, bedlinen and other similar items.
We Can’t Use: Thicker fabrics such as heavy or open weave knits, toweling, heavy denim, coats or suit jackets, hats or gloves. PVC, leather, rubber, lycra/very stretchy items and treated fabrics like rain coats or macs, any item made from fabric that can’t be ironed.
Remember, your quilt can only look as good as the materials included. Gorgeous clothes make gorgeous patchwork! A good range of colours, patterns and motifs is great, and a few plains and simple spots/checks can work really well to coordinate. Items with motifs, ribbons, nice buttons or other fancy details add interest.
We want you to love your quilt so please do include any requests or ideas you may have. If there are items that are really important to you then please attach a note to them with a safety pin so we know to put them to the top of the pile. Some customers divide the clothes into ‘must haves’ and ‘everything else’, some label every item, some include very specific instructions for some items, some just leave it up to us to be inspired! We will do our best to incorporate your requests. We try and use as much of the clothing as possible. If no specific requests are made, our seamstresses will use their own judgement and experience with the clothing and fabrics provided to ensure the best result is achieved.
Keepsake Cushions
Please refer to the information for quilts above, the item description for the cushion you have ordered and the size of the cushion in relation to the clothes you’d like included.
It’s very helpful for cushions if you can indicate the order of importance of the items, particularly for larger motifs where we may not be able to fit them all on.
